Unlocking the Influence of Social Media on Architectural Design

Uzone.id – The presence of social media has had a significant impact on the architecture industry. The emergence of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest has become an infinite source of inspiration for architects in designing creative and innovative buildings.

Furthermore, social media has millions of images, videos, and articles shared every second. This opens up new opportunities for architects to seek inspiration, share ideas, discuss, and collaborate with other professionals from around the world. Social media can facilitate architects’ access to designs that may have previously been difficult to access.

Not only that, but social media can also allow architects to showcase their projects. By showcasing their work on social media, architects can see real-time feedback from their followers, including clients or potential clients.

Thus, architects are required to display diverse visual content in the hope of innovating further by incorporating various inspiring basic elements, from modern minimalist styles to traditional architectural elements adapted to the latest technology.

For example, an American designer, Ryan Korban, always relies on Instagram to market his products. Korban used bright colors combined with gold because he thought it could attract many people’s attention. So, he designed the interior of office apartment buildings with a striking design and then put it on Instagram.

“Now everything by design is a matter of symmetry, marble, the point is that if you take a photo on a cellphone, it all comes in and looks good,” said Korban, quoted from a Bloomberg blog post.

On the other hand, many are worried that designs that have been photographed and included on social media can lower the price, and many are even more worried that their work or ideas will be stolen by other architects when they are exhibited on social media.

In fact, social media is where an architect can introduce and exhibit his work so that it can be seen by others. A smart architect can use social media as the main tool to express creative ideas through design, even starting from the construction process.

In line with this, David Barry, President and CEO of the development company Urby, admitted that his business’s sales increased after it offered products through social media on its Instagram page. He says providing an Instagramable space is very important for an architect.

“In my opinion, Instagram does not have the main goal for transactions, but it is a good path to promote brand awareness, which can end up being transactions. Providing your own Instagramable room is very influential in terms of sales and marketing, seeing many potential clients looking for a space to be curious about the products being sold,” said Barry in a statement.

With the continued development of technology and interactions between platforms, social media will likely influence how architects work and create more innovative and functional spaces. As international collaborations become more open, design trends prioritizing aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability will continue gaining a place in architecture.

Social media has become invaluable for architects seeking inspiration and developing their careers. However, architects must use social media wisely and avoid catching up in a mere trend. By combining inspiration from social media with in-depth knowledge and experience, architects can create buildings that are not only beautiful but also functional and sustainable.

Conclusion

In today’s all-digital era, social media is no longer used to interact. Instead, it can be used as a tool by architects and designers to showcase their work, connect with a wide audience, and get inspired. By making the most of social media, an architect or designer can attract potential clients and engage industry peers by following the latest trends.
